After a super rowing Sunday with rowers from Prestwick last November, the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club (FOCCR) in Largs accepted our invitation to come over to have a row with us in Lamlash Bay on Sunday 11th February. But the „the best laid plans of mice and men“ were doomed because whoever was responsible for the weather that weekend played foul and we had to cancel 🙂 But sometimes patience is a virtue and on our 2nd attempt on Sunday 25th February we were spoilt rotten by decent sea conditions, blue sky and sunshine all day. There was definitely some spring feeling in the air and so unbelievably we even managed to sit out in the sun in front of the Yacht Club and enjoy our lunch together.
At 10.40 ACRC’s motorised welcome committee picked up the 16 FOCCR rowers and their supporter at the pier in Brodick and chauffeured them over the hill to the Lamlash Yacht Club.
A 900m course was set out and both Arran skiffs had mixed crews made up of Arran and Largs rowers which led to some friendly but competitive rowing. And Robert Dawson (FOCCR) could not have formulated it better in his FB post „Overall winner was the spirit of coastal rowing“.
After the last race at 3.30 pm everybody involved was tired but happy and thought that we had spent a fabulous day together.
Despite a flat car battery everybody was taken back to catch the 4.40 ferry in time. And the Arran rowers glady accepted the invitation for a Sunday of joint rowing in Largs.
Thank you to everybody involved in making this happen and to our excellent photographers Dave, Marbeth and Nick.

Dave posted his photos on ACRC’s Facebook page.
And now we are looking forward to Sunday 18th March when Troon CRC are visiting us for the day.
