Largs regatta 2nd September 2017

ACRC Novice/Fresher Crew won bronze medals

16 ACRC rowers (Cil, Emma, Fritzi, Tracy, Charlie, Colin, Dave, John, Rory, Ronnie, Stephen, Stuart, Uel) followed the FOCCR’s (Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club) invitation and took skiff Seabhag over to Largs for a great regatta day.

ACRC’s tug of war team with their silver medals

We all enjoyed the friendly, welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. The entire event – including the weather – was spot on and very well organized. Thank you FOCCR’s for putting all this effort into it and to everybody involved and to all those taking part. Our rowers had to face strong competition and battled against 13 other skiffs from FOCCR (2), WSV Woudrichem from Holland (2), Prestwick, Killyleagh from Northern Ireland, North Berwick, Troon, Glasgow, Carrick, Queensferry, Cumbrae and Royal West (Greenock).

ACRC winners of the 200m sprint challenge

In total nine 500m sprint races had to be rowed: Mixed Under 220, Mixed Decades, Mixed Open, Novice/Fresher, Mixed Over 220, Junior (U19s), Women’s Open, Men’s Open, Inter Club Challenge.

Our fresher/novice team* (Sarah, Stephen, Ronnie, Colin with cox Cil) came 3rd and took home bronze medals. Congratulations and well done!

* A “Novice” is a rower who has never won a rowing race in any competition / A “Fresher” is a rower who has been rowing for less than a year

ACRC managed to put together crews for all races except the Junior race. At the end of the races the clubs had to compete against each other in a Tug of War where the Arran team came second and took home the silver medals.

Some took part in the 200m sprint challenge on a rowing machine and the ACRC rowers proved to be on good form and were winners in their age classes (Gillian, Cil, John). Stuart even got the fastest time of the day in all age classes.
