On the weekend of 19th-20th March, Friederike and Stuart (although at 6’4″ he is far from being an ideal cox) went to a well attended and extremely informative coxing course for coastal rowing clubs in Ayrshire, organized and hosted by Carrick Coastal Rowing Club.
Besides us, 13 members from Carrick, Cumbrae, Girvan, Firth of Clyde, Prestwick and Troon met at Dolphin House in the stunning grounds of Culzean Castle on the Ayrshire coast. As we from the Arran Coastal Rowing Club are new kids on the block it was really good meeting members of other coastal cowing clubs, sharing and profiting from their experience. We enjoyed the warm welcome.
The two very experienced trainers, Ali Grant (Portobello) and Barbara Elliot (Anstruther), shared their knowledge in an interesting, lively and interactive way. We will share what we’ve learnt with our club members on Arran and hope to see the other clubs on the water soon again or welcome them and their skiffs on Arran.
A big thank you to Fergus and Henry from Carrick CRC for organizing the weekened, our trainers Ali and Barbara for sharing their knowledge in such a fun and comprehensive way and last but not least to the team at Dolphin house for feeding us so well.
