On a sunny Saturday morning on 14th July, 12 Arran rowers (Cil, Charlie, Dave, Emma, Fritzi, Graeme, Matt, Ronnie, Rory, Sarah, Stephen and Stuart) were on the first ferry with skiff Seabhag heading to the regatta in Largs.
First of all a huge thank you to all FOCCRs (Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club) for hosting a great day and to all other participating clubs (Prestwick, Royal West, North Berwick, Carrick, Renegade, Cumbrae, Troon, Stranraer and South Queensferry) for all the fun, great rowing spirit, camaraderie and friendship. And last but not least a big thank you to Shona from Glasgow for rowing for the Arran team.
Besides enjoying the sunshine, the hustle and bustle and many chats, it was a very successful day for the Arran team and all the training over the last year seemed to be kicking in. Out of 7 races we reached 4 finals and won 3 races and 15 gold medals. Very tired but satisfied we returned on the last ferry and had a few very well earned drinks – at least all the non-drivers. A big thank you to Dave for towing the trailer with the skiff, Stephen and Charlie for being our chauffeurs.
Huge congratulations to North Berwick who scooped – not completely unexpectedly – first place overall with Royal West and Arran coming in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Prestwick’s Skiff and the mixed interclub crew were proud winners of the inaugural Duncan Winning Challenge which was a 3km return race to Cumbrae and back.
