In the past the emergency services on the island used to have a meeting at a pub of choice for an evening of competitive gaming, Darts, Pool, Dominos etc. In recent years it has stopped and when the Coastal Rowing Club built its second skiff it was Dr Angus Campbell’s idea to bring it back as an inter service regatta. Sadly he never got the time to do that.
This year on the 20th October crews from Police, Fire, RNLI, Mountain Rescue, Coastguard, Hospital & Ambulance and the Medical Centre are all taking part and practising like mad already.
The format is evolving as we get nearer to the date but the plan is that each team will race twice over a 500 metre course once in each skiff and their times will be combined. The two quickest crews will then race in a final for the trophy.
At this time we anticipate starting to race at 12 noon on Sunday the 20th October. We will have a barbecue going (BYOB and food). We hope for a fun afternoon of competition, friendly banter and socialising. We anticipate that the trophy presentation will be around 4 pm.
So please save the date, come along and support what should be a great day.
